Dear, Lakewood Families-
Happy Monday! Welcome to week eight of the school year. A huge thank you to everyone who participated in National Walk, Bike, and Roll Day. Our scholars and staff had a wonderful time, and it was heartwarming to see the community come together for this event.
A quick reminder: Friday, October 18th, there will be no school for students. This day is set aside for professional development, so our staff will be working hard behind the scenes to continue enhancing our instruction.
Special thanks go out to our Patrol Sponsors, Mr. Nguyen, and Mr. Cruz for their facilitation. I’d also like to thank Mrs. McCaffrey for her support with the morning announcement being outside, and last but certainly not least, a big thank you to Sergeant Baquero for passing out toy badges, co-leading the walk, and speaking to scholars during the morning announcements about safety, and positive police relations, showcasing the strong partnership between the police and our school.
Please take a moment to review this week’s edition of The Eagles’ News From the Lake for more details on this and other exciting updates, including:

A big thank you to everyone who attended Back to School Night! I would also like to extend my gratitude to our PTA Fall Festival Chair, Mrs. Camilla Torrella, for organizing such an epic experience. This week’s edition has details about the Fall Festival, volunteer opportunities, enrichment activities, Best Buddies, Spirit Wear, fundraising, and more!

Thank you to everyone who was able to attend our first PTA meeting of SY25—my principal’s message is linked here—and our third annual Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day. Special thanks to our front office staff, Mrs. Brown and Mrs. Robinson, for their warm welcome, our assistant principal-Mrs. Levy, school counselor-Mrs. Gottesman, staff development teacher-Mrs. Khoury, and reading specialist-Mrs. Skrodzki for their incredible support in helping to organize the event, and our building services team, led by our phenomenal manager and assistant manager, Mrs. Chavez and Mr. Decesare, respectively.

I especially want to take this opportunity to thank all the grandparents and grandfriends who joined us for the celebration on Friday, 6 September 2024. We had Grands from India, Africa, Switzerland, Ukraine, and, of course, good ole- Maryland! Our eldest grandparent in attendance was 82 ½ years young, while our youngest was 52. It was such a beautiful moment to honor and engage with the elders in our community, and the scholars absolutely loved it! We welcome your feedback about Grandparents’/Grandfriends’ Day—please feel free to share your thoughts by sending an email to me and/or Mrs. Levy directly.

All my best,
