MCPS Students Honored for Volunteerism

Ten MCPS students were recognized at the 2025 Montgomery Serves Awards ceremony, the county’s highest recognition for volunteerism.
The following students were celebrated for earning the highest number of Student Service Learning (SSL) hours in their grade level during the 2024–2025 school year.
- 6th Grade: Riley Goodman, Silver Creek Middle School, 407 hours
- 7th Grade: Lucia Castro Herrera, Shady Grove Middle School, 629.5 hours
- 8th Grade: Princess Asare, Montgomery Village Middle School, 1160 hours
- 9th Grade: Akina Hart, Rockville High School, 1272.5 hours
- 10th Grade: Theodore Lim, Poolesville High School, 1308 hours
- 11th Grade: Sophie Huang, Richard Montgomery High School, 1573.5 hours
- 12th Grade: Lilyanna Bergfalk, Wheaton High School, 2296 hours
The following students were celebrated for their exemplary service and exceptional dedication to making a meaningful impact on the community during the 2024-2025 school year, based on MCPS staff nominations.
- 8th Grade: Wilson Costa, Francis Scott Key Middle School, 55 hours - Nominated by Margaret Joseph, Central Office Specialist at Francis Scott Key MS
- 11th Grade: David Blanco Corona, Magruder High School, 737.5 hours - Nominated by Ashleigh Prendable, Spanish Teacher and SSL Coordinator at Magruder HS
- 12th Grade: Jazmary Solla Perez, Springbrook High School, 1504 hours - Nominated by Latrice Curtis, Resource Teacher and SSL Coordinator at Springbrook HS
