DEPARTMENT OF STUDENT AND DATA SYSTEMS
The Department of Student and Data Systems manages daily operations and enhancements to the student data systems, including the student information system, the student data warehouse, grade books, online registration systems, and the parent/guardian and student portals. To ensure operational excellence and staff productivity, the department streamlines administrative processes, provides advanced technical support, and ensures efficient access to data, dashboards, and reports for school-based and central-based staff. Their work directly aligns with the school system priorities of (1) engaging stakeholders to build trust; (2) ensuring student health and well-being; and (3) refocusing on equitable teaching and learning. The Department of Student and Data Systems is also responsible for collaborating with other MCPS offices, government agencies, and external vendors on new initiatives, data system integrations, and enhancements driven by district strategic initiatives and priorities.

Student Systems Development
The Student Systems Development team supervises the daily operation of applications and technology systems that manage all student administrative information including enrollment, attendance, scheduling, course management, grading, report cards, discipline, health, and assessment information within the Student Information System (Synergy) platform. In addition to SIS, this team manages the AdminVUE, TeacherVUE, StudentVUE, and ParentVUE mobile applications. Other major functions of this team include the maintenance of SIS and application security, release management, scheduling, and annual processes.
Data Systems and Architecture
The Data Systems and Architecture team supports and enhances the MCPS Student Data Warehouse, develops analytic reports and dashboards, manages student data services, and implements automated data transfers between internal and external systems. This team also fulfills MCPS data requests, supports federal and state-mandated report submissions, and is responsible for student record cards and transcripts.
Operations Development
The Operations Development team manages daily operations of the intranet, the Principal Memo platform, and the Online Registration Systems for enrolling new students, registering students for athletic teams, and the annual verification of emergency contact information. They also provide technical support to parents and schools, test new SIS enhancements, and create documentation for these new features.
Project Management
The Project Management team oversees new Synergy SIS projects and develops process improvements into new efficiencies. In coordination with MCPS offices and the Department of Student and Data Systems, this team implements new functionality, system processes, and platform enhancements. Their goal is to create new products that streamline administrative and data entry processes and produce easily accessible reports and other analytics.
